How to choose a singing bowl?

How to choose a singing bowl?

Some people may purchase a singing bowl just because they like the sound and that's all, but if you are looking for the instrument for special practice, then you should determine first what you are willing to do with the bowl. Most of the singing bowls we sell are good for personal and group meditation practice and healing work, but not all the bowls are ideal for massaging, reflexology or space cleansing.

If you want to chant along with the sound of a singing bowl, choose an instrument that will be easy to sing

Singing bowl exercise Listen To Separated Tones

Singing bowl exercise Listen To Separated Tones

For this exercise, you will need a singing bowl that has at least two noticeable overtones (in addition to the fundamental tone) and a mallet with a medium firmness to strike the singing bowl (choose the mallet that will bring the lowest tone of the bowl along with at least two higher-pitched tones). I recommend choosing a hand hammered Himalayan singing bowl (also called Tibetan singing bowl) of a medium or large size.

  • Bring the rim of the singing bowl to the level of your forehead approximately three to four inches away from

What is sound meditation

What is sound meditation

Becoming a master of your own mind is the common goal of all self-development practices. By observing your habits, by listening to your thoughts, by being true to yourself you take control of your life. Conscious listening is the key to well being.

I will share with you two simple practices that helped me to become a conscious listener. I find them as a good tool in training the “inner observer” muscle, they also are an excellent aid to achieve tranquility. Practicing these simple techniques had

What is a Singing Bowl?

What is a Singing Bowl?

There are so many different speculations about the original purpose of singing bowls. And you may ask what is a Tibetan singing bowl used for? The majority of experts claim that they were used as utilitarian vessels for eating, drinking, and storing food. Also, bowls were, and still are, being used for collecting donations. However, the sound properties of singing bowls have been acknowledged for centuries. The variety of shapes of antique bowls indicates that acoustic properties were of primary importance.

How to take care and clean a singing bowl

Even though Himalayan singing bowls are made of metal and look solid, please remember that they are very fragile! Some antique bowls have such a thin bottom that you can hear a clicking sound or even make a hole if you press it with a finger. Always put the bowl on something soft, such as a rubber shelf liner. If you put a bowl on a wooden surface, check that this surface is totally flat with no nails sticking out or any other firm particles. Always be gentle with your instrument. Don't strike too hard with the firm mallet and even

Planetary sounds

Planetary sounds

One of the modern approaches to sound healing modality is matching the tones of the instruments (gongs, singing bowls, tuning forks) to "planetary frequencies". The planetary frequencies, in this case, are not the vibrations of the planetary surface or its heartbeat, but the orbital period!

For example, the orbital period of the Earth around the Sun is 365.26 days. So what would be the sound of the Earth?

Sound and light

Sound and light

Sound and light are just two known manifestations of universal energy, and they could each be either harmful or helpful. I know practitioners that combine sound healing and color therapy. These healers are looking for the "color" bowls.

It's easy to convert the units of sound (Hertz - Hz) to units of specific diffraction of light (Nanometers Nm), but please don't forget that by simply converting units, you are not doing any alchemy, but only checking what equivalent of your tone will be manifested as a color.

Singing Bowls for Massage and reflexology

Singing Bowls for Massage and reflexology

The sound given off by singing bowls is a result of vibration. Let's take a look now at mechanical vibrations apart from the sonic properties of the bowl.

You could alter the roughness of the bowl's vibrations from rough to finer by changing your playing style (not applicable to every bowl). If you rub a mallet covered with suede on the lower part of the rim (going parallel with the mallet to the wall), you'll most likely produce the rough vibrations.

What is the character of a singing bowl's sound?

What is the character of a singing bowl's sound?

The character of sound you introduce to your or the client's field is probably the most important aspect to consider! If you pay close attention, you will realize that each bowl has it's own energy. It might be associated with a specific mood, temperature, color, steepness, roughness, smell, season, situation or even scenario. Each bowl has it's own message and energy to offer.

The sound alone could provoke a memory or emotion that could penetrate the layers of subconscious knowledge and bring up something

Brainwave entrainment

Brainwave entrainment

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain's electrical response to rhythmic sensory stimulation, such as pulsating light or sound.

Introduction of monaural or binaural beats with relatively small differentials induces specific brainwave states; such as meditation, relaxation, trance, sleep induction. Higher differential beats could enhance focus and raise brain activity.
