If you start hearing a rattling sound, slow down and apply more pressure. The mallet loosely vibrating against the metal (jumping on-and-off) causes that rattling sound. It takes a little pressure to maintain even friction with the metal as it vibrates back and forth. The rattle is usually heard in the same area when playing the rim of the singing bowl. The Jambati (rounded bottom) Himalayan singing bowl is one of the most common types of singing bowls. 

This type of antique sound bowl usually appears to vary between 8.5” – 14” in diameter. The height could vary between 3” – 7”. 

Jambati singing bowls can be made with a thick lip (rim) or with no significant difference between the thickness of the wall and the edge.
